DB Cargo AG aimed to decrease the downtime of damaged rail cars, and reduce the time spent organizing, managing, and distributing replacements. Previously, an outdated system dictated this distribution, leading to manually organized disposition of damaged wagons. Continuous modifications in the workflow were needed, while fewer employees could operate and maintain the legacy system.

A new system was necessary to optimize rail car utilization, reduce costs, minimize revenue loss, and automate and scale the wagon damage process. Detecon played a key role in this transformation by conducting the feasibility study, developing the business case, designing the implementation phase, and executing the project.

In just a few seconds, this solution pinpoints the optimal repair shop for damaged rail cars, taking into account factors such as type of damage and distance to the shop.
