DB Cargo AG aimed to decrease the downtime of damaged rail cars, and reduce the time spent organizing, managing, and distributing replacements. They sought to increase automation to streamline the selection of repair shops for damaged freight wagons. Previously, an outdated system dictated this distribution, leading to manually organized disposition of damaged wagons. Continuous modifications in the workflow were needed, while fewer employees could operate and maintain the legacy system.

A new system was necessary to optimize rail car utilization, reduce costs, minimize revenue loss, and automate and scale the wagon damage process.
